Terms of Service
Overview
Effective October 28, 2026
These Terms of Service explain how Plumy can be used by students, tutors, and invited participants. Plumy provides account tools, availability and booking coordination, messaging, file sharing, and session records.
Plumy is operated by Plumy Inc., a company registered in Quebec and based in Montréal, Quebec. In these Terms, “Plumy”, “we” and “us” mean Plumy Inc.
By creating an account or using Plumy, you agree to these Terms. Each account is created and used by the person it belongs to, except a student account that a parent or legal guardian creates for their child (section 2), and you must meet the age requirements in section 2 to open one.
This text is designed to be practical and safety-first. It is not a substitute for independent legal review tailored to your specific operations.
1. Service Scope And Roles
Plumy is a software platform for connecting tutoring participants and organizing sessions. Features may include tutor profiles, subject matching, recurring availability, booking requests, messaging, file sharing, and session notes.
Tutors are independent service providers and are responsible for the information they publish, their rates, their availability, and the tutoring services they deliver. Students and guardians are responsible for selecting tutors and supervising learning arrangements.
Plumy is not a school, employer, medical provider, emergency service, law firm, or financial advisor. We do not guarantee learning outcomes, grades, admissions results, or certifications.
2. Accounts, Eligibility, And Student Safety
You must provide accurate information, keep account credentials secure, and promptly update profile and contact details when they change. You are responsible for activity from your account, except where the law says otherwise.
You must be at least 14 years old to open a student account and at least 18 years old to open a tutor account. We ask for your date of birth when you create an account so we can check this, and signup is refused when the date given is below the minimum for that account type. A child under 14 cannot open an account themselves: where Plumy offers it, a parent or legal guardian can create a student account for them instead, as described below. Use by a minor must comply with applicable law and should be supervised by a parent, guardian, or authorized institution when required.
Accounts a parent or guardian manages (where Plumy offers them): a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18 and has their own Plumy account can create a student account for their child and manage it. In doing so, they confirm that they have parental authority over the child or are otherwise legally entitled to act for them, they agree to these Terms for the child, and they are responsible for how the account is used. They book and manage the child’s sessions, see what the child sees on Plumy, and are told of the child’s activity. They can let the child sign in with a username they set, and can hand the account over to the child once the child is old enough to run it. Plumy may end a guardian’s management of an account where safety or the law requires it.
You may not impersonate others, create accounts using false identity details, or use the service for unlawful activity.
3. Bookings, Payments, And Cancellations
Session status, location mode (online or in person), and timing are set through the product flow. A booking is not final until it is confirmed in the platform.
Tutors set their own rates. Plumy does not process payments: students pay their tutor directly, outside the platform. Tutor plans are provided at no charge for now. If and when payments through the platform are enabled, charges, refunds, and payout timing will follow the checkout terms shown at the time of purchase and any applicable payment processor rules.
Users must act in good faith with scheduling and cancellations. Repeated no-shows, abusive disputes, or misuse of booking tools may lead to account restrictions after review.
A tutor or a student can end their connection at any time. Sessions between them that have not started are cancelled, and no new sessions can be booked or messages sent until they reconnect. What they share becomes view only: neither can change it, though each can still delete their own files, recordings and messages. Because Plumy does not process payments, any payment or refund for those sessions is settled between the tutor and the student. Either of them can invite the other to reconnect, and the person invited can accept, decline, or decline for good, which stops that person’s invitations without them being told.
4. Content, Messaging, And Acceptable Use
You keep ownership of your content. You grant Plumy a limited, non-exclusive license to host, process, transmit, and store content only as needed to operate, secure, and maintain the service and to deliver its features to the session’s participants.
You may only upload or share content you have the right to use. Do not upload malware, unlawful material, or content that harasses, exploits, threatens, or violates privacy or intellectual property rights.
Tutoring integrity is required. Users may not use Plumy to facilitate cheating, fraud, impersonation, or unauthorized access to accounts or data.
Group sessions: a tutor may hold a session with several students at once, and the students in it may be of different ages, minors included. In a group session, you may not record, photograph or share the session, or anything another participant says or shows in it, outside Plumy’s own recording; you may not contact another student from the session outside Plumy to ask for personal information or to meet them; and harassment, threats and sexual conduct of any kind toward a participant are forbidden. The tutor running a group session can mute participants, remove them, lock the room and end the session. A group session is recorded only if every student booked in it agrees first, as our Privacy Policy describes.
You may close your account at any time from your profile. When you do, your profile and anything only you could access are deleted, except your name: the tutor or student you worked with still sees it on your shared record, marked as a closed account, until none of them has an account any more or you ask us to remove it. What was said in a session or written in a message is kept as it was. Sessions, messages, shared files, and the transcripts and summaries produced from your sessions remain available to the tutor or student you worked with, because that record is theirs as much as yours; session audio and video are destroyed 30 days after closure. The same applies when they close their account instead of you. Records we are required by law to keep, such as those supporting billing and tax reporting, are retained for the period the law requires. Our Privacy Policy describes this in full.
5. Recordings, Transcripts, And AI Features
Tutors can record tutoring sessions: online sessions as audio or, on some plans, audio and video, and in-person sessions as audio. During an online session, a visible “Recording” indicator is shown to everyone in the room while recording, and by continuing in the session while that indicator is shown, you acknowledge that it is being recorded. For in-person sessions, the tutor is responsible for informing everyone present before recording. If you do not want to be recorded, do not continue with the session and arrange an alternative with the other participant.
The tutor who starts a recording is responsible for having any consent required for it, including consent from a parent or guardian when a student is a minor and any consent required under applicable law. Recordings, transcripts, and generated documents are shared only with the participants of that session, and with authorized Plumy staff for support and security, and are handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
We use third-party AI services to produce transcripts and, on eligible plans, session notes, next-session agendas, and automated progress estimates. These are provided to help tutors and students and may contain errors; they are not a formal evaluation or a guarantee of accuracy, results, or outcomes, and they do not replace a tutor’s own judgment.
6. Privacy, Data, And Legal Rights (Canada And Quebec)
Plumy processes account, booking, profile, and communication data to provide platform functions, maintain security, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations, and usage data (the pages visited and features used) to understand how the platform is used and improve it. Further details should be described in a separate Privacy Policy.
For users in Canada, privacy handling should align with applicable federal and provincial law, including PIPEDA where applicable and Quebec privacy requirements, including Law 25 obligations where applicable.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit non-waivable rights under applicable consumer protection or civil law, including rights available to consumers in Quebec under mandatory law.
7. Changes, Enforcement, And Contact
Plumy may update these Terms when features, legal requirements, or safety practices change. Material changes should be communicated in-app, by email, or by other reasonable notice.
These Terms exist in French and English. The French version is the one that applies to you; the English version is a translation. Plumy keeps a record of the version, the date and the language you were shown. When the Terms change in a way that affects your rights or obligations, we tell you by email and in the app at least 30 days before the change takes effect. If you keep using Plumy after that date, the new version applies to you; if you do not agree, you can close your account before then.
Accounts or content may be limited or removed where reasonably necessary for safety, legal compliance, fraud prevention, or major policy violations. Where appropriate, users should receive notice and a way to request review.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Quebec and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Quebec, and disputes should be brought before competent courts in Quebec unless mandatory law requires another venue.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to the contact address below with enough detail for account, booking, message, file, or policy review.
